As NewRaleigh readers know, the Triangle region is a creative place to live and work. A new nonprofit arts organization in the Triangle has been created to provide support and services for artists and create a network to connect the creative community.  Triangle ArtWorks will also help broadcast the proven impact of a vibrant creative community to the broader community.

This week, Triangle ArtWorks launched its website, www.triangleartworks.org.  The site is a virtual platform to educate and connect the artistic and creative community in the Triangle region, their supporters and the public via discussion forums, articles, blogs, and a clearinghouse for regional resources.  ArtWorks is loading more services on the site and needs input from the community about how the site could provide better service to individuals and arts groups.

“There is already an incredibly diverse and vibrant arts and creative community in the Triangle area., as well as lots of hard working and successful arts non-profits.” Yerxa states, “ArtWorks goal is to bring together this community, promote what services and programs already exist to a broader audience and create a “centerpoint” for this community and these groups so that they can find each other easier and begin to explore possibilities to work together.”

Working on increasing the civic engagement of the creative community is another important goal of Triangle ArtWorks. “If the Triangle’s large creative community can begin to come together, then they can begin to be a cohesive force that can work for change, or simply work to promote the importance of their community in the Triangle ArtWorks will monitor and report on economic and political news and activities that affect the creative community on both a regional and national level, and promote it on its website and through social media.  Yerxa explains, “Of course, this will work both ways.  By creating a online network, members of this community will help us keep abreast of information important to the community as a whole, and we will help to disseminate that information.”

In the next several months, ArtWorks will be meeting with arts groups and leaders in the Triangle to gather ideas for programs, services or collaborations.  According to Yerxa, the ArtWorks Board of Directors will then take this information to create a short and long term plan for moving forward.
