Skip Elsheimer and AV Geeks are back with another Home Movie Day. This time it’ll be at the North Carolina State Archives Auditorium (at 109 East Jones Street) on Saturday, October 16th from 1-4pm. We are huge fans of AV Geeks as is CBS Sunday Morning, where Skip’s Educational Shorts DVDs were featured almost a year ago in November 2009.

You can also check out their video installation “Random Acts of Kindness” every night from dusk to 2am outside at the Urban Design Center from now until November 15th.

Home Movie Day was started in 2002 as a worldwide celebration of amateur home movies, during which people in cities and towns all over would get to meet local film archivists, find out about the long-term benefits of film versus video and digital media, and-most importantly-get to watch those old family films! This year Home Movie Day will take place this October 16th, 2010 - all around the world!

Many folks who come don’t even have films to bring. They just enjoy watching glimpses into the past. If you do have old super 8, 8mm and 16mm - even better. We can inspect them, talk about how to preserve them, transfer them for easy access and watch them on the big screen!

The event is free and open to the public!
