That *might* just be one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

  • Ty06/30 05:55 PM

These are just large clumps of tubifex worms.. the worms, when disturbed will cling together tightly which simulates this mass movement.

  • Brian06/30 07:40 PM

Wait, some people thought this was a hoax?

    K.

  • jeremy06/30 09:33 PM

Ty is right, Tubiflex worms. When they are in a severe enviornment such as a sewer.. They combine together to form a CYST and work together too slow its metabolism to survive. Nature at its finest.

  • April06/30 09:41 PM

Yes, tubiflex worms according to this:

Let’s blast some Jackie Wilson “Higher & Higher” and see if we can get Cameron Village to jostle about comically.

  • Rob07/01 01:43 PM

Tyler Dukes from News 14 did a little investigating and found out it was a group of worms. Gross.

Thanks to all the readers who sent in tips and tried to solve the mystery and for those with humorous comments as well. I spoke highly of you as an engaged audience in an interview I did with WRAL that will air at 5:30 tonight.I’m not sure if that segment will be used, but know your comments are much appreciated. With that said, it does indeed appear to be tubiflex worms even though the News and Observer jumped to the bryozoan conclusion.

  • Yocum07/01 03:36 PM

All sources lie! It’s the Zerg!

    We need more minerals.

  • Aaron07/01 03:45 PM

Someone needs to stop eating at Chinese Buffets

  • Tim07/01 04:41 PM

I guess the tubifex worm and bryzoan debate is still going. WRAL & the N&O say bryzoan while News 14 and deepseanews say tubifex. Ed Buchan of Raleigh Public Utilities Dept. said his staff confirmed the creature as a colony of tubifex worms.
