The 6th Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge will go down in Downtown Raleigh between the Person Street Krispy Kreme Store and the NC State campus on Saturday February 6th, 2010. According to the website, the race is “going for a Guinness Book World Record with over 6,000 racers (there were 5500 in 2009), runners, and supporters competing to scarf more than 72,000 glazed donuts.” The event is a benefit for the The NC Children’s Hospital and this fact is probably the only reason to actually register and participate in this event.

For those not familiar with the race, it begins at the NC State University Bell Tower on Hillsborough Street. Each runner runs 2 miles to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, just East of Downtown Raleigh. After downing a full dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, the runner must run the 2 miles back. This entire process must happen within an hour. Also, be sure not to trip on the all the Hillsborough Street rubble on the way.

Last year the race garnered a lot of national media attention, including both ESPN and MSNBC’s Countdown. We expect no less from this year’s race and registration is now open on a few levels; Challenger, Casual Runner, and Supporter. Read below for a bit more on the tiers of registration or go to the website for the full explanations.

A Challenger, $17 (Run 4 Miles, Eat 12 Doughnuts, Get a T-shirt)
A Casual Runner, $17 (Go 4 Miles, Eat Some Doughnuts, Get a T-Shirt)
A Supporter, $10 (Come Out to the Race but Don’t Run or Walk, Get a T-Shirt)

Register for the 6th Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge here.
