Purple Armchair is the newest second hand store in Raleigh—but it’s no thrift store. The Glenwood area warehouse features a wide range of juried items including furniture, vintage clothing, artwork, kitchen items, and unique objects from the previous century. Those seeking to sell their antiquated goods are required to become members of Purple Armchair. Every item that a member wishes to sell must be approved by the staff in order to maintain a high quality of aesthetics and craft within the showrooms. Once an item is approved it is integrated into the showroom.
The showroom is an open warehouse with large fans urging the summer heat to stay away. There are many Danish modern and mid-century pieces of furniture as well as art deco and early modern items.
The owners plan to have a small coffee bar at the store and are also open on First Fridays.
