Visual Art Exchange Unveils New Works, Prepares for groundSPARK

The Visual Art Exchange, a non-profit gallery in Moore Square, debuted its latest exhibit, N.E.W. (Never Exhibited Work), to unprecedented crowds last Friday as Hurricane Hanna descended on Raleigh.

VAE, directed by artist Sarah Powers, launches a new exhibit each month on First Friday. The association’s mission combines community and the visual arts by supporting emerging local artists with opportunities to exhibit and sell their work.

N.E.W. marks one of VAE’s most significant events of the year, as it opens its doors to local artists’ latest experimental projects.

Here are a few of the works you’ll find this month at VAE:

Brad Thomas, the N.E.W. Show juror and director of the Van Every/Smith Galleries at Davidson College, purchased Cuba Quarry for the college’s permanent art collection.

Mock-Bunting does not digitally modify his work.

Also be sure to check out groundSPARK September 19th and 20th as VAE partners with SPARKcon. A 27-hour street painting festival, groundSPARK will take place on Martin Street next to Moore Square and feature artist Casey Porn.

Over 400 artists will chalk original designs for fun and prizes. There is also a kidschalk area with chalk, face paint, and other kids activities. Artist registration is now closed, but the event is free and open to the public for viewing.
