Volunteer at World Beer Festival

As previously reported, World Beer Fest is coming up.

Three options.

1. Get Tickets.

2. Volunteer

3. Don’t go to Beer Fest.

If you love beer and love Downtown Raleigh-we want you to be a volunteer at the 4th Annual World Beer Festival Raleigh on Saturday, May 2.

World Beer Festival volunteers get to enjoy a Saturday filled with live music, festive beer lovers and perks like a FREE Volunteer t-shirt, a subscription to “All About Beer” magazine, and an invitation to the post-event volunteer party (usually scheduled sometime during the week following the festival) where you get to sample beer and food.

Not only will you have fun, but you’ll also be helping a great cause, because for a third year in a row, the World Beer Festival Raleigh is helping to raise money for the Downtown Raleigh Alliance who’s dedicated to revitalizing downtown. For more information about the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, visit www.YouRHere.com.

Sign up today for a fun-filled volunteer opportunity! Volunteers can register for the second session (4:30 pm-10:30 pm) or both sessions (10:30 am-10:30 pm) on Saturday, May 2. If you volunteer for both sessions, you get a six month subscription to the “All About Beer” magazine versus a three month subscription, and you will receive two raffle tickets versus one raffle ticket for the prize drawings at the post-event volunteer party.

The event takes place in Moore Square on the corner of Blount and Martin Streets. Volunteers must be 21 years of age to volunteer and will be required to attend a volunteer training seminar on Wednesday, April 29 (more details to come).

Im holding out for another beer festival that may be in the works!!!  And it wont cost $8K to go to.

$40 is not a lot at all for what you get.  It’s priced just high enough to where people who would just go to get drunk are deterred and low enough to where it’s not that outrageous.  All About Beer does quality work and has gotten things to be pretty smooth over the years producing this event.

If you really have that big of a problem with $40 you should perhaps hang on to your cash and work on budgeting finances better anyways.

I’d rather be around people who are there to enjoy the breweries and take back something positive rather than have someone puke on me because they decided to see how much beer they could gulp down from their sampling glass.

My protest is the amount of money that rake in.  Just think, there is about 5,000 people that go (total) and each pay $40 each = $200,000.

Their cost =  rent Cops, Tents and Crappers.  Well say they rent 40 Cops for 8 hours @ a rate of $45/hr Thats almost $15,000.  I dont know what tents and crappers cost but less just say another $15,000 for a total of $30,000

Now there profit is @ ~ $170,000. Lets look at the other costs.

If you want to sell their tickets you have to pay the All About Beer People to sell their tickets… You make zero profit if the customer pays cash… You make negative profit if they pay with credit card…

If you are a brewery then you have to guarantee you bring X amount of kegs.

The vendors have to pay several hundred dollars to have a space.

I might have missed something but I think that about covers everything.  So their only other cost is the Charitable contribution to The Down Town Alliance.

So the real question is how much of that $170,000 is Daniel Bradford going to give to Charity?

Another question if its about the charity and the event then why did they cancel their own wine/charity event that was suppose to be on the same say in the same spot.  The charity they canceled on was frankielemmon-dot-org/

Now why would you cancel one charity event for another?  It all has to do with MONEY.  All About Beer will profit more off of the World Beer Festival than the Wine Festival.

Thats my reason for not going… I wont pay but I will go for free.

Oh and there are only 2 reasons to go the the beer festival.  To work and get hammered or to just get hammered… period!  The is no way anyone can hide behind that fact.  If you give everyone a breathalyzer test on the way not many would pass.  Conclusion they got hammered.

“accept children 12 and under” FAIL

Other costs?  OFf the top of my head….beer, cups, insurance, tickets, online tickets sales, promotion, um, signage, staff (there is staff other than ticket takers and cops, trust me).  Sound system (I assume there is some form of sound at this event)....

    I could go on.

  • ben05/02 08:11 PM

@VaNC, agreed, however it would have been nice to see an little more time/money spent on signage proofing.  not as bad as dunkin donut’s, though.

  • mgd05/02 10:09 PM

    @VaNC

As for cops and the beer I guess you failed to read my post.

Beer is free to them.  Cups OK $1 a pieces ~ 5K maybe thats probably over estimating it.  Ticket sales is pretty much free cost of preprinted ticket Ill say $1 b/c i dont know may be less may be more.  Ill say they sell half online (zero cost) and half sell at retailers.  Thats $2.5K TOTAL $7500

Insurance couldnt tell you.  Ill say $20,000 for one day.  Sound system Ill be generous again and say $20,000.

New total for all about beer for one day after kicking a real charitable event out…
    Is $122,500
