If you’re not among the tens of thousands of individuals in Wake County who have already casted your vote for the May 6 Primary Election, then head on over to your early vote site! Why wait until election day when all sorts of excuses could arise for you to not make it to the poll (your alarm clock didn’t work, your car broke down, you had to work late, your friend needed a friend - and a drink - after work)?
Did you know the North Carolina General Assembly recently passed a bill that allows all citizens in North Carolina to cast their vote before Election Day (aka: no excuse voting)? Early voting, for the first time, kicked-off on April 17, and will run through Saturday, May 3. To find your One-Stop Early Vote Polling location, click here.
If you didn’t register before the deadline, or have never voted before, no worries - you can also vote during Early Voting at One-Stop Voting sites. It’s as if our government actually wants its citizens to participate in democracy! Don’t know if you’re registered? You can check the NC voter database online here.
And, if you’re still not sure who to vote for (there are quite a few obscure, local elections that are just a bit overshadowed by the Presidential election) check out the non-partisan voter guide released by the NC Board of Elections website. And, of course, all sorts of sources put out their own endorsements as well, including local print media (the Independent Weekly’s came out last Wednesday, and you can expect the News & Observer’s to be released soon).
If you need more information, check out the NC Board of Elections website.
If you need extra incentive, a group of folks will be heading to the polls to vote early on Friday, May 2 at 4:30pm and then heading over to The Borough for a brew to celebrate! So, come on out and bring a friend - maybe one who needed her/his faith renewed in our democratic process or one who just needed a drink.
