The Walkmen to Open for Kings of Leon

As you may know, Kings of Leon are coming to Cary’s Koka Booth on Tuesday April 28th. Information has now emerged that The Walkmen are opening the show. The Walkmen put on a great show and although many find Hamilton Leithauser’s vocals to be either painful or a Bob Dylan copy, they are a bit more avant garde than most bands you’ll find in the Indy circuit these days. The three piece suit and performance at the Spoon show in Durham were both kinda fierce.

1. The combination of these two bands is perfect and the show should be quite entertaining.

2. Good job Koka Booth.

3. It’s good to see The Walkmen have graduated in the area from Lincoln Theatre (free show in 2006 with Bobby Bare and Nathan Asher) to Carolina Theatre (last year with Spoon) and now Koka Booth (with Kings of Leon). Someone around here must like them like I do.

4. Hopefully Hamilton won’t get in a brawl at some random Cary bar after the show.

I wish it was The Walkmen headlining. Though them playing in Cary at all blows my mind.

$45 bucks for a ticket, really? After surcharges what will this show cost? Don’t even tell me, I’m out. I’ve seen Walkmen twice in town, with Spoon at Carolina theater, $26,.. and lso headlining at the cradle which was about $12. I drove to Ashville last year for KoL and spent twenty-something for the ticket. I am about as hard-core a KoL and Walkman fan as they come, but I’m drawing the line at $45. I’ll appreciate them from afar.

I own all the KoL albums and most of The Walkmen, however, I’ve only actually paid for two Walkmen albums and two KoL albums, so I have about six that I stole. If bands keep getting their music ripped off, maybe $45 for a show is the only way they can make anything. Maybe I should pay the ticket price as penance for stealing their music.
