Foodies in North Raleigh can rejoice today. Word comes that Whole Foods is coming to Northern Six Forks at its intersection with Strickland. While not definite the N&O says “Regency said it is in final negotiations with the grocer, and all indications point toward Whole Foods as the tenant.” If things go as planned the store should be open for 2010.

While excited about Whole Foods expansion in the area, we are dismayed in considering the fate of the proximal Harmony Farms and Triangle Nutrition, both locally owned shops that carry much of the same products as Whole Foods.

Are you implying by the aerial photo that the empty, wooded parcel is the proposed site?
Let’s see if WF can erect an environmentally responsible building that mitigates the impact their new building will have. I wonder if the old Fresh Market space along Falls of Neuse (just north of Sandy Forks Road) was just not large enough for the new mega-WF store models.
I updated the graphic to clearly delineate the plot for the shopping center. The developer is not related to Whole Foods, merely negotiating with them as tenant. The space is 40K feet much larger than the old Fresh Market location.
Yea….that’s what I kind of figured. Economics now dictate that WF=WM (Wal-Mart) in terms of size. I’ve always felt that since we lost Wellspring to the WF corporate monster we’ve seen truer colors. Well, let’s hope for the best and urge WF to require good building practices from the developer. If they’re such a desirable tenant, developers usually find a way to do the right thing and still profit from it.
Ohhhh snap!
I’m much more heartened by Trader Joe’s going in to an existing shopping center (where The Melting Pot is). Not only are no trees falling, a dying center is being rehabbed, and I don’t know if there are people here who haven’t been shopping at the one in Cary, but TJ’s sorta beats Whole Foods at their own game, in a much smaller footprint.
haha..you mean “foodies with too much money and not enough imagination” me thinks…
I welcome Whole Foods to North Raleigh. My wife and I are vegan and they offer a great selection of options for us. We currently drive to their location on Wade Avenue weekly. The new store would be one block from where we now live.
The critiques of their corporate practices outlined above are unsettling though. Can someone point me to a book or articles that speak to these issues in more detail?

How do I apply for employment for the new North Raleigh location?
You are always going to find people that have a negative attitude about stores going up. Yes you may have to cut down a tree to put up a building but you can also plant a tree. Which most landscapers do in the parking lots that I’ve seen. Trust me I know my husband is in that field and they can make a mess landscaping. I’m excited about the Whole Food coming to N Raleigh as well. I’m trying to transition over into a vegatarian lifestyle and Will be going to Fresh Market on Falls of Nuese until WF is finished. It is right now the road from my house.
Give me a break. Whole Foods does more for the environment than any other major retailer. They are building bigger stores because that is what most customers want, large selection and some breathing room. I hate shopping at trader joes because the space is so small you can’t shop. They don’t have fresh food departments, so everything is pre-packaged, and they don’t have quality standards that even come close to whole foods. If you buy whole food’s 365 brand you will spend less than you would at trader joes, or any other grocery store. For those that are so concerned with trees being cut down, stop having kids. More people in the world mean more stores. Go plant s tree and stop bitching.
So When is the Whole Foods near 6 Forks opening up? I hope that they have more International and Vegitarian foods like the ones in NY. The one in Raleigh not so much, hopefully this will have some good and different selections. A juice bar would be nice also.
on the above comment
Just visited your new North Raleigh store. What were you thinking putting your highly perfumed section of soaps, incense, etc right next to the produce department. Big disappointment. Many people are highly allergic to scents, especially chemically manufactured ones, not to mention that they are highly toxic. I don’t think people will appreciate their lettuce tasting like lavender, not to mention the migraine they will have before they manage to exit the store. sorry to say I am a big fan of whole foods and have spent a lot of money at your Wade Ave store but will not be back to your North Raleigh one.
