Wilco Cary Koka Booth Setlist and Show Notes

Bon Iver started out the show Friday night as the sun started to fade behind the trees at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary. Justiin Vernon’s voice resonated in and out of the forest that surrounds the venue as eager fans packed the grounds even before Bon Iver took the stage. They played many of their songs off of For Emma, Forever Ago as well as a Talk Talk cover and ended with lots of abstract noise. The band is on their way to great fame in the coming years. Talent beyond words.

As soon as Wilco took the stage, the audience took to their feet. An energy packed set followed, as well did two encores, almost maxing out the 11pm Cary town sound curfew. Jeff Tweedy commanded the troops in glorious fashion as always. Drummer Glenn Kotche was very animate throughout the set. Nels Cline, the new guitarist added for Sky Blue Sky, stole much of the stage with his impeccable guitar solos. Both encores included The Total Pros horns section which added a very nice layer to the night time concert. The weather and crowd were fabulous, but it was the set list that made the evening perfect, although I was hoping for a little Casino Queen or I Must Be High.

Great show.  The crowd was a bit subdued, but then again, Wilco played some more atmospheric pieces too (Reservations), so that was good as far as I’m concerned.  I had only wished to hear…
    ‘Either Way’
    ‘War on Words’
    ‘California Stars’
    & ‘Wishful Thinking’
... still a fun time though.  I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve probably only seen a handful of 2 encore shows, so that was pretty damn cool.

^ I meant ‘War on War’

    too many tuffies.

  • GB08/14 06:59 PM

    What’s a “tuffie”?

  • wg08/14 07:09 PM

those stuck up, rich, inside-the-beltline kids that ALL wear popped collar POLO shirts, boat shoes, croakies, all have the same curly hair haircut flipped out from the sides of their hat, and drive land rovers and tahoes that their rich, daddy doctor or lawyer bought for them…..

    jealous much?

  • wg08/15 01:06 PM

ha, actually the complete opposite.  i wouldnt wish that lifestyle on anyone.  i grew up raleigh with that shit, and i cant stand it.  fucking posers.

One thing you can say about teenagers, they all have some affiliation with something that ultimately results in a fair bit of “sameness” in the group.  And that goes for all of them.  Even the alternative dressers, in their bid to be “different” end up looking the same.  Who cares?

  • but I live inside the beltline08/15 10:25 PM

Yeah, as David said, who cares? Let people do their thing. wg’s comments remind me of the racist comments my father always made—let’s take a bunch of people who all look alike and lump ‘em together as something we don’t like, even though we don’t really know any of them.
The Wilco show was still great. Bon Iver was even better than I expected, even though the set was so short! As expected, my favorite song of the night was “Misunderstood.”
