Wild Ginger Asian Bistro and Sushi has been located on the first floor of the Progress Energy building for a few years. It was one of the few places in downtown to get a variety of Asian meals including hibachi, thai, sushi and more. The space was quant and the food was decent, unfortunately that wasn't enough.
The sign that popped up over a month ago stating that the space would undergo a "one month renovation" seems to have led to the space being closed for good by their tenant, Progress Energy. The options for sushi in downtown are now slim to none, with Sono being the main restaurant with rolls in the grid.
What should replace Wild Ginger in the Progress Energy building? There's already the fabulous Sosta Cafe, a bbq joint, a new bar coming on the corner and the upscale bu•ku. What more does the building need?

I was never able to get over there to try it, but I know I would really appreciate some good Indian.
Good Indian food is so hard to find down here.
i’ll miss wild ginger, but it would be nice to see a good outplacement consultancy move into this space.
Supposedly an Indian restaurant is opening later in the summer next to Napper Tandy’s.
One thing I’d love to see in the area is a Crepe shop. There’s one in Crossroads that I’ve always thought would be perfect downtown.
i think one really basic staple that most cities have that we don’t is a walk-up, by-the-slice pizza place. there’s the place beside bruegger’s on glenwood but i would never walk that far just for a cheap slice.
retail would be nice but that’s never going to happen, seemingly..
I’d love a Kernel Kustard to pop up! I think it’s a Winston-Salem small business, but it’s awesome!
There is good Indian food on practically every corner in Cary and RTP.
is buku supposed to be “upscale?”... how depressing
so how would YOU describe Buku?? Remember we are in Raleigh, NC….
Cary and RTP mean nothing to downtown Raleigh restaurants. That’s a bit of a hike. The problem with this area is the need for personal transportation. I opted out and moved downtown.
