Win Tickets to Animal Collective’s ODDSAC Film This Friday - AGAIN!

With what has been called an experience that is “utterly captivating and well worth the hour-long ride for any fan that wants a peek into the band’s creative madness”, ODDSAC, a film by Danny Perez and Animal Collective is making its triangle debut this Friday night in Chapel Hill. Since premiering at Sundance in January, screenings across the country have been rather limited, so we’re lucky to be getting one right here in our back yard. After Chapel Hill, there are only two U.S. dates left, then it’s off to the U.K. At Friday’s screening both Danny Perez and members of the band (Deakin and Geologist) will be in attendance.

Without having seen it yet, it’s hard to describe exactly what ODDSAC is. Stereogum posted a tweet saying “I walked into ODDSAC completely sober. I walked out feeling like I dropped two hits of Acid. Animal Collective fans, you’re in for a treat.” Here’s what the people behind the film themselves had to say:

ODDSAC is a feature film collaboration between the band Animal Collective and filmmaker Danny Perez that was co-conceived by and stars Animal Collective, whose 2009 album “Merriweather Post Pavilion” was named album of the year by SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, and Pitchfork, and topped critic’s end of year lists worldwide. ODDSAC, which premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, is a dense and surreal layering of audio and visual elements that eschews conventional narrative to create a visceral, immersive experience.

ODDSAC features an original score with new songs from the band and complex digital manipulation by Perez, a debut filmmaker and visual artist known for his concert projections with musicians such as Black Dice and Panda Bear. ODDSAC represents a new synthesis of music and film, a “visual album” whose songs will not be released in any other form. ODDSAC is the result of over four years of intense collaboration between Perez and the band.
