Yancy’s Officially Closed

Today there were lots of workers outside of Yancy’s looking for their paychecks today, but a handwritten note on the door stated, Yancy’s is closed. As predicted speculated in a recent article, Yancy’s has officially closed for good. The problems started back in February when Yancy’s filed for Chapter 11 (as did Longbranch which also folded in the past few weeks). It looks like our initial predictions

speculations have come true in only a few weeks.

Yancy’s was vacant of any owners but many (former) employees were asking for answers. “What paychecks?“ a former cook stated when an ABC article was mentioned that stated that all employees will be paid.  “That’s something they told the news crews to get them out of their face” he stated. He stated he hadn’t been paid in weeks and his lights were going to be turned off at his house today. “This is wrong. There ain’t nobody in there I don’t want my lights to be turned off on my kids”.

Another couple of workers were hanging out of the front door looking for news crews and demanding payment from the absent owners. “I haven’t been paid in 4 weeks” one girl stated. There was also discussion about Vango Foods which apparently now owns a stake in Yancy’s. Needless to say, there a lots of unhappy workers on Fayetteville Street this week and until further notice, Yancy’s is indeed closed for business.

Ok, I hate to seem heartless, but… “‘I haven’t been paid in 4 weeks’ one girl stated.“

That is PLENTY of time to get a new job. I know the job market is “difficult” right now, but there are plenty of places hiring… and if you were able to make decent money in the restaurant industry, you must have some sort of customer service skills that can be applied elsewhere.

It’s time to put the big kid pants on and look out for numero uno - a restaurant owner(s) will not do it for you.

Umm…. I wouldn’t really call your unsubstantiated article about Yancy’s being closed a prediction. In fact I think the irresponsible publishing of that information may well have hurried their close. Taking bets on how fast their business would fail seems low class, and then gloating that you actually got it right in the end is just rude.

Looks like New Raleigh was right. And Yancey blaming his restaurant’s collapse on a few bloggers (as he appeared to do in today’s N&O;) is laughable.

I feel for the poor workers who trusted their boss to meet his commitments. I hope they find more stable employment soon.

    Lisa—you are a jerk.

If Yancey owned Microsoft he would bankrupt it in two years.  The man has no business sense at all.

I agree with Lisa, too.  It sucks that they aren’t getting what is owed them, but bitching about it isn’t going to pay the power bill.

I liked their crab dishes, and the aioli sauce…  too bad it’s gone.

Yancey didn’t RUN the business, geniuses!
