Yuxtapongo and Heads On Sticks collaborate

Back in late May of this year, New Raleigh brought news of Heads On Sticks upcoming debut album into the peripheral. Now, with the fall season approaching, “Mocking Bird” will see the light of day next Tuesday, August 31st. Mueller has premiered some tunes over at his blog: Lady’s in the Lake and Trompe La Mort. Mueller has also been busy appearing on WKNC’s Local Beat program a few weeks back, discussing the intricacies of mid-century Abyssinian politics, or as some have interpreted, how I learned to drive myself crazy with this new soundboard.

But this next bit of promotion is special.

As Mueller puts it: “This month’s episode of Neill Prewitt’s Yuxtapongo, a monthly exhibiton of local experimental video art, will feature a series of videos made for tracks from the new Heads on Sticks album, Mocking Bird (out 8/31). The show features videos by Neill, Nick Speaks, Miles Holst and Hobert Thompson. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with these talented artists on this project.”

These videos definitely live up to Yuxtapongo’s visual standards. Neill Prewitt tackles “Trompe La Mort”, “It Doesn’t Matter Now”, “Sex Wedge” and “Two Clicks” (my personal favorite from the record). Nick Speaks animates a slightly apocalyptic yet uplifting collage for “Mocking Bird part 1”. Miles Holst cuts and pastes his way through “Moth or Flame” while Hobert Thompson’s sense of timing takes up the screen inside an apartment at Grosvenor Gardens for “Mocking Bird part 3”. Can’t really elaborate too much on these - you will just have to see them for yourself.

So, counting the previews and the videos, that’s 8 tracks we now know of at this point. Hopefully there will be a few more to round out from what sounds like a pretty confident and sonically pleasing debut. Visit Heads On Sticks site to keep yourself informed. As far as YUXTAPONGO, here is what you need to know: appears on RTN 10: Raleigh cable channel 10 - Thursdays at 10:30PM • Sundays at 10:00PM. New episodes start at the beginning of each month. The current episode is the 21st of Yuxtapongo, which means in the next few months the show will celebrate two years on the air! Big Ups!
