Shimmer Wall Update - Week Three
It has been just over two weeks since the Shimmer Wall started construction and it looks like it should be 99% complete by the weekend. Photos and Video below the fold.

Shimmer Wall Update
As we announced last week, the Shimmer Wall at the Raleigh Convention Center in Downtown Raleigh has started installation. Almost a week later and the pace has picked up on the construction of one of the largest public art projects in the area and we have photos and video below the fold.
Convention Center Shimmer Wall Installation Begins
Installation started today on the Raleigh Convention Center’s Shimmer Wall. Six panels so far on the first bay with many to come. 79,464 aluminum ‘pixels’ will compose this 9,000+ s.f. LED backlit art installation wall. Click through for more.

Renovation Right: The Circle House by Cannon Architects

Our subject is a 2004 renovation to a 1930’s bungalow that makes a striking contemporary addition to the rear of the house, almost completely hidden from the street.
RBC Plaza Tower Tops Out - Adds Spire
The spire was added this morning to the top of the RBC Centura Bank Tower in Downtown Raleigh. This means that the building has officially reached its tallest point of 538 feet. Now the fun part (infill) begins. Click through for slideshow.
2008 AIA Triangle Design Awards
The Triangle Chapter of the AIA North Carolina held its annual Design Awards Banquet and Lecture last week. Robert Hull, who is nationally renowned for his regionalist architecture with Miller Hull Partnership, chaired the awards jury and gave the lecture Tuesday night in Downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District. AIA Triangle Awards Banquet and Lecture
The past year has been an interesting one for the new Contemporary Art Museum in Downtown Raleigh. Proposals were made for a new complex just before the condo boom slowed down. Money was tight, so they decided to have a benefit party at a mall? All that said, tonight, CAM will host it’s first event, The AIA-Triangle Awards Banquet and Lecture, in years at its current location in the warehouse district. The public is invited, so bring your best black outfit and check out some of the best architecture in the region.

LEED Gold Visitor Center by Raleigh Architect, Frank Harmon
Merchant’s Millpond State Park is in Gatesville North Carolina, where construction is underway for a new visitor center designed by the studio of Frank Harmon, Architect in Raleigh. The structure will aim for LEED Gold certification, and will mark the first instance of a LEED certified building for North Carolina Parks and Recreation. More…

Klingons Angered by Stolen Bridge Design

Ronald Glasser Speaking Tonight at UUFR
Dr. Ronald Glasser was on The State of Things last week and has been speaking over the past couple of days in various venues in the area. Glasser was a medic in the Vietnam War and has a good amount of stories to tell.
Hue Raleigh Material Mockup
As mentioned last week, Hue Raleigh has set up a sales office on the West end of Martin Street as construction continues on the condo building. To continue the triangulation of Hue’s presence in the West End, they have also been building a material mock-up just west of the train tracks on Hargett Street, just down the hill from Sidetrack Brewpub and Bloomsbury Estates.
