Raleigh Bikers to Cycle to Inauguration

As the presidential inauguration approaches, many people are making plans – driving to D.C., attending local balls, viewing parties, etc. One group of Raleighites, however, is taking the festivities a step further; to not only witness this historical moment in person, but also to further the ideologies they supported during the presidential campaign for which they volunteered. The group’s resulting feelings of empowerment served as a driving force of inspiration for their Inauguration Bike Ride.

Thirteenth Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration

Thirteen years and running, it is time again for the annual American Indian Heritage Celebration at the North Carolina Museum of History. From 11 am to 4 pm this Saturday, November 22, North Carolina’s state-recognized tribes will gather at the museum and on Bicentennial Plaza and the State Capitol grounds to celebrate their heritage and culture as a part of American Indian Heritage Month. North Carolina has the largest American Indian population east of the Mississippi, and members from the eight tribes will be present: Coharie, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Haliwa-Saponi, Lumbee, Meherrin, Occaneechi Band of Saponi, Sappony, and Waccamaw-Siouan. Well, maybe. If Harris Teeter’s daily $2.49 submarine sandwich was in fact the clear winner for most economical (and sufficient) lunch in town, the lead just got cut. Our favorite rotating sandwich-of-the-day has gone up to $2.99, another sign that inflation is about to kick in from doubling the amount of cash in circulation.
