Jim Grimsley’s Dream Boy Hits the Big Screen

A recent film adaptation of Jim Grimsley’s novel, Dream Boy, will soon bring the dirty south to theaters nationwide. Since growing up in Pollocksville, North Carolina, and earning a B.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill, author Jim Grimsley has became an award-winning novelist and playwright.

His work overturns the porch-rockin’, church-goin’, sweet tea-drinkin’ South and exposes its dark and seedy underbelly.

RWO3 Cherry Bounce Stage Live Music Recap

Raleigh Wide Open 3 was very well attended, especially after the rain stopped. The Cherry Bounce stage enjoyed a good crowd even in Friday’s rain storms. Organizers Billy Warden and Greg Behr put together a lineup that the youth of the city could be proud of.  Most of the weekend and the online music magazine Ear Farm was there to document the entire weekend with videos and mp3s of the shows. Maybe next year will bring even more national press.

Lots of live videos below the fold.

RWO3 - It’s On!

After a wet start, the forecast for the rest of the weekend is sunny and Raleigh Wide Open 3 is in full effect.  Last night’s wet performances were better attended than expected considering the downpour.  Raleigh’s own Annuals closed the night as the rain stopped early in their set.  Today is going to be dry and tonight you can catch Soul Asylum, Islands, Urban Sophisticates and Lou Gramm.

Other events today include the International Festival, the carnival, a screening of Transformers in Moore Square, and the Parade. Check out the big map and guide for times and locations.  We will see you downtown!
