Music News in Raleigh

Annuals are heating up for a busy fall in the capital city. First they will be playing Raleigh Wide Open 3 on the Cherry Bounce Alternative stage on September 6th and just a month later on October 7th, they will be releasing their sophomore albums, Such Fun. Hmmm, that date looks familiar.

It was only six years ago that I was watching The Avett Brothers, sans Bob Crawford, playing outside of a small wine bar, aptly called The Wine Bar, in Charlotte North Carolina. A tip jar was at their feet and the gleam was in their eyes. There were about 25 people there, most of which were college students simply wanting a beer, clueless to the future of these soon-to-be music idols. Tomorrow this same band, with Bob Crawford, will play for a crowd of over 7,000, their largest so far. The 60s had the Beatles, NC has Avett-mania and its in full effect.

Kelly Crisp and Ivan Howard, aka The Rosebuds will be hitting your local record store on October 7th with their fourth full length album, Life Like. If this preview is any indication, the album looks to continue where the Rosebuds left off. What’s up with the pink elephant?

If you’re trying to have a post-work week beverage in the street while checking out some early evening music—then definitely step over to Hargett Street on Friday, July 25th.
