EVOO Restaurant Closed
After seven years in business, the five points area neighborhood bistro EVOO has closed its doors. EVOO will be missed as it provided excellent food and a nice contrast to the hustle-and-bustle of restaurant row on nearby Glenwood South. EVOO’s Mediterranean sampler platter was spectacular, as was just about any preparation of fresh fish. Head Chef and part-owner Jean Paul Fontaine is one of the area’s better culinary talents, and loyal patrons can take some comfort in the fact that a note posted on the EVOO website says that they “are currently looking to open a new restaurant.” Read more below the fold.

Gravy Italian-American Kitchen Now Open in Downtown Raleigh…and it’s all graaaavy!
By now everyone has heard that downtown Raleigh’s newest restaurant, Gravy, has opened right next door to Sitti in the former Riviera location. And you probably already know that it’s a partnership between the owners of Bella Monica and Greg Hatem’s Empire Eats. So I won’t bore you with the details. But have you been yet? I recently ventured inside for lunch and was not at all surprised to find friendly service and quality food. Despite the minor delay in opening, Gravy is definitely off to a good start and promises to become another downtown favorite. You can read my full review below the fold.
Interview with the Creators of North Carolina Wine TV
Recently two local marketing guys named Kipp Bodnar and Jeff Cohen started North Carolina Wine TV, an online video show published twice weekly that reviews wines produced right here in North Carolina. To understand the importance of wine in our state, consider that North Carolina is now home to approximately 80 wineries. Kipp and Jeff have now set out to taste wines produced by every one of them. Raleigh in particular is fortunate to have two wineries located within very close proximity, and visiting these wineries for tours and tastings makes for an inexpensive and enjoyable day trip. I recently interviewed Kipp and Jeff. We discussed topics ranging from their favorite restaurant, their favorite things about Raleigh, and of course, North Carolina Wine TV. I hope you find this as interesting as I do. More below the fold…
