Oscar Winners from Once Coming to Raleigh

imageIf you caught the Oscars last night, you know that Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova accepted, very graciously, the Oscar for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.  The song is called “Falling Slowly” and is the opening track on the film’s soundtrack.  The duo performed the song in grand fashion on the awards show.  After performing the song, they were awarded with the Oscar and Hansard was able to say his thanks but the Academy cut Irglova off with the overhead music.  After the break, host Jon Stewart brought Irglova back on stage to say her thanks which ended up being one of the most memorable moments in recent Oscar history.  Word comes through the grapevine that the Irish duo will be playing Meymandi Hall in May.  This information isn’t on the Progress Energy’s site yet, but tickets go on sale Friday.

A Rooster for the Masses Return Today on WKNC

Before the collapse of Kings Barcade, there were a couple of local bands that regularly rocked the venue.  A Rooster for the Masses was one of the most notable ones, but shortly after Kings was demolished, a couple of members of Rooster decided to move to New York City, demolishing one of the better bands in the Triangle.  Almost one year later, Rooster has re-emerged with a couple of new members and a couple of new songs, which they will debut this evening on WKNC.  I received exclusive previews of each track and they sound as though Rooster never took a hiatus.

Locopops Opens its Raleigh Store

We recently reported on the signs that popped up at 1908 Hillsborough Street advertising the opening of the beloved Durham staple Locopops.  Without an opening date posted on the window, it was anyone’s guess when the company would open their doors.  But, just in time for a warm sunny February Saturday, the wait is now over.  Locopops opened its doors on Friday and I popped in today to check out the selection and space.
