Full Frame Announces 2010 Award Winners

With one director saying this was one of the strongest collection of films at Full Frame in years, the jury was given the difficult decision of selecting the best of the best.

It’s no surprise to see Restrepo towards the top of this list since the film recently took the Grand Jury award at Sundance this year. A startling film about a soldier’s day to day life in Afganistan’s Korengal Valley, the most dangerous place to be deployed, Restrepo was extremely difficult to watch, but wonderfully done.

Winning the Audience Award was Waste Land, which I have heard more than one person say was the best film they had ever seen at the festival, including me. The film also won the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance.

Pelada was great. Particulary nice that there was a pickup game beforehand and Only Burger was in attendance. It’s wonderful that they opened the event up to the general public for the free showings and Durham’s Central Park was a nice place to view the film.

I agree that Pelada was fantastic.  I saw it indoors on Sunday, but it was a really effective documentary.  Not an “issue driven” film, as they say, but it touches on something unique everywhere they go.  Hopefully we’ll get a Raleigh screening soon.  Cudos to Rebekah and Ryan for all those incredible shots and for the great editing.
