Cupcakes Cupcakes and more Cupcakes! http://www.thecupcakeshopperaleigh.com/aboutus.html
I am a huge fan of Cupcake Wars and when I saw the pictures on the website I decided to visit. The shoppe is cute and the display of cupcakes made you want to try all of them. The young lady behind the counter was ok. Nearly impossible to engage in conversation. Maybe she was having a bad day. I asked if she was the one who made the cupcakes and she said no, so obviously an employee. I was a bit worried when I looked into the display and saw the outside of the vanilla cupcakes. They look hard and overbaked, but I thought maybe it was just me seeing too many episodes of Cupcake Wars. LOL Instead of trying 1 or 2 I bought a dozen. I took them home and tried all the frostings. While they did taste like the flavor they were supposed to, the icing was crusty and hard on the outside. I was expecting to bite into a nice soft cupcake, instead I found them lacking in taste and a bit dry. Not light. Maybe it was just an off day with the baking? I don’t know. The taste of the cucakes reminded me of the .99 muffin mixes you buy in the store.
OK guys….from one dessert critic to another THIS PLACE ROCKS! It’s the real deal….the naysayers blogging on dry cake need to revisit what “from scratch” cake is….if you grew up on the Duncan Hines cake mixes your grandma used to bake you will not like these little beauties but they are awesome! Cool, inventive flavors, sweet little cafe, and super friendly staff. And if you’ve visited other ccake shops worldwide these girls are on the cheap side. Check ‘em out for yourself! Great late night dessert spot.
I love the concept, but this place just doesn’t deliver. The cupcakes were definitely dry, which is kinda ridiculous when that’s all you bake. The frosting is good, but there’s almost too much of it.
The cupcakes were just lovely, but I only liked the frosting :( The cakes themselves were dry, as though they sat for a day.
This place is as darling as can be. And, the frosting is amazing—-delectable. I do find that the cupcakes are a bit on the dry side. Personally, I would prefer them to be more moist. My favorite is the What’s Up Doc? I really like the mini cupcakes—-you have to pre-order them. It would be fun if they offered them all the time. This would allow for people to have more than one flavor at a time. It is a good and cute place to stop in for a sweat treat.
Amazing frosting. The cupcakes serve more as a means of holding the amazing frosting , they’re like the cracker you use for a really great drip, kind of dry in and of themselves…but it’s the frosting you’re after here.
