    I still like Stonewolf!

Did someone really say High Life is a nice contrast to Pabst? Thats like saying (in a world full of fine cuisine) Burger King is a nice contrast to McDonalds.

Does anyone know the story behind The Rooster and the Hurricanes song?

I’ll stand on the soapbox for the National, the Jackpot, and Sweet Crude too.  The National at the Cradle a few years ago was amazing, the Jackpot is the diamond in the rough of Raleigh drinkeries, and the standing O that Sweet Crude recieved at Full Frame was well deserved.

I went to the Jackpot a couple of times… dont know if I would liken it to a diamond in the rough… that may be a little stretch.

The last time I went I saw a girl that brought her own vodka in a ziplock bag!

Like the format a lot - it works really well and comes off as a conversation amongst friends. I was going to argue the breaks seemed unnecessary until it was explained it was a local band. I like the idea of using those breaks to highlight local music - very cool.

The Jackpot needs to be bulldozed as soon as possible (really like, months and months ago). What an absolutely wretched place.

  • Micah04/18 09:31 PM

Really, Adam?  I hate that you are forced to visit such a horrible place.  Perhaps they will tear it down, and it will be replaced by some condos with street level retail and 2 more bars just like all the others on Glenwood South and downtown.  I don’t love the Jackpot by any means, but it definitely has a place in Raleigh’s bar scene.  There is no other place like it, and that is a cool thing for a city like ours.

The YackPot is pretty crappy but it serves its purpose and I can respect that.  But whats up with the house behind it that looks like it could fall down any day.  Ive seen signs for an art gallery off and one before bu thats a big house… does anyone occupy/live in the rest?

  • B04/19 03:56 AM

The house behind Jackpot (“the green house”) is used as a studio space by a number of people.

  • pablo04/19 06:02 PM

The Jackpot definitely has its place, but I liked the Bourbon Street model better.

In a previous life the Jackpot was a stripper bar and they would take their “clients” into the attached house for the “happy ending”.
