It started with a perfectly prepared dry Grey Goose Martini as usual for me while the rest of the group opted for a dark berry, almost fruity Malbec from Argentina. So good that two more bottles flowed through the dinner. Appetizers consisted of a creamy spinach dip served with toasts and fried onion rings that just melted in your mouth. Not greasy at all and fried to a beautiful golden brown. inue with the green theme and ordered a wonderful spinach salad. The group went for the Ribs (why else do you come to The Pitt), quantities being the only difference with one person adding a little chicken to his also. Ribs as usual fell nicely off the bone as they should when prepared by the nations number one rated Pitmaster. But the chicken always seems a little dry. Ed, I think I would skip the chicken and start with maybe a goose. Something with a little more juice/fat to begin with. Wait staff are great. Wine list is good and Ed make you feel right at home!
Holly & Hamid Mohajer have established a dining name for themselves in a converted old house in Downtown Raleigh. The food has been terrific every time we have eaten there. Last night we were waited on by Kenneth who recommended a reasonably priced red wine (45 Jaboulet) to go with our starter of Chicken Livers with Bacon served on crusty bread and a cheesy, creamy veal stock. Superb! This was followed by a grilled Caesar Salad and another appetizer of Grilled Scallops. The meal was finished with a Pumkin Bred Pudding with a Praline Whiskey Sauce. An thoroughly enjoyable evening to say the least.
The dinner at Second Empire is always a spectacular event. Arthur the Maitre d, Katrina the waiter who was supported by Erin provided impeccable service. We started with an appetizer of Pan Fried Duck Liver. My main consisted of a perfectly cooked Grilled Certified Angus Beef Rib-eye with an herbed butter accompaniment. It was served with Mashed Potatoes blended with Manchego Cheese and Broccolini on the side. She went lite on the main and had a Grilled Scottish Salmon Pave, with creamy soft polenta & jalapeño, black currants, sautéed haricot vert, apple butter, radish & grapefruit mojo sauce. A complimentary Vanilla Ice Cream drizzled with Chocolate that spelled Happy Birthday around the edge of plate finished the evening. A tremendous meal!
Sitti is one the finest and most pleasurable eating experiences in Raleigh. The flavors are truly Lebonese. In fact in the four times I have eaten there we never got past the appetizers they were sooo good. Service is stupendous, atmosphere is fantastic and the food can’t be beat!
Situated unobtrusively next to Arby’s on Hillsborrough St. Is Sushi Tsune. I believe to be the best sushi restaurant in Raleigh. Not big and splash, not on Fayettevile St. But well worth the jaunt through Hillsborough construction to enjoy. The freshest fish and most knowledgeable Sushi Chef in Raleigh - bar none!
