Raleigh City Council Races Shape Up: Crowder and Van Dyk
It’s not often an incumbent faces opposition within their party. That’s why when Ted Van Dyk declared his candidacy for Thomas Crowder’s seat – Raleigh City Council District D – the announcement created some buzz.
No Extension on 2030 Comprehensive Plan Comments
Raleigh City Council should have extended the deadline for comments to be included in the public hearing draft of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan—but they didn’t. There was a strong case for extending the comment period, but Mayor Charles Meeker and Councilors Phil Isley, Mary-Ann Baldwin, and James West voted against it. Councilors Russ Stephenson, Nancy McFarlane, Rodger Koopman, and Thomas Crowder voted to allow additional public comment.
Put up a Parking Lot
With an all-too familiar lack of imagination, aesthetics, history, safety and disregard for it’s own procedures City Council, in a seven to one vote (Thomas Crowder being the only renegade), sent a message about its fealty to the internal combustion engine and how easily cowed it apparently can be by a gaggle of self-indulgent youngsters staging a sit-in on the front lawn – sitting in Daddy’s cars.
